It’s up to us

“The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” ~ Plato

The Citizens United v. FEC decision was a major turning point in the corporate movement to seize our government, nation and world. With the power of the media now unleashed for political influence and corruption, all the powers-that-be need to do is tilt public opinion enough to set the stage for corporate wins on election day. That increases the amount of corporate politicians in power who then set policies that are not just “pro-business”, but intentionally sabotage, paralyze or destroy anything that restricts their unquenchable blood-lust for greed. The ultimate goal is a fascist takeover of America. We will only have ourselves to blame when that takeover is complete.

“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism—ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.” ~ Franlink Delano Roosevelt

If our government becomes corrupt, we should look in the mirror to find who is to blame. A Democracy is ALWAYS in danger of being corrupted. A good government requires an engaged voter.

We have the power to make the world any way we want and the Media is one of the most powerful tools we have to affect change.  Due to the Citizens United decision, the voice of the people is quickly drowned out by the vast wealth that is poured into legal propaganda advertisements. These ads are played on nearly every channel, as well as propaganda television such as FOX News. When the propaganda and lies flow freely through the media that people trust, it actually does change the minds of the people. It influences their political beliefs in ways that convince them to vote against their own best interests, usually out of fear, hate, or deception.

The only choice we have is to fight back.  There is no saying “I can’t” or “it’s too hard”. There is no other option. If we do not, we will lose everything: freedom, equality, fairness, safety, environment, and yes, the world.  There is a popular movement gaining major support to amend the constitution to end corporate personhood. Two states, Montana and Colorado, just voted to support an amendment to end corporate personhood by a margin of 3 to 1. On November 2, 2011, “six Democratic senators introduced a constitutional amendment that would effectively overturn the Citizens United case and restore the ability of Congress to properly regulate the campaign finance system.” On November 18, 2011, “Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced an amendment that would ban corporate money in politics and end corporate personhood once and for all.” UPDATE! December 1, 2011, Los Angeles, CA is poised to become the first city to end corporate personhood! This is a significant development.

While we work to make this amendment become a reality, we must vote in every election for the most ‘for the people’ candidate that can gather a majority of votes to defeat the corporate politician. If we fracture, the corporate party has the upperhand – just look at Canada for an example of conservatives winning thanks to the fracturing of the left. Not only must we encourage others to simply vote, but we must also give them a reason that is important enough for them to get in their car and drive to the polls.  It is imperative that we actively engage with every element of society to make sure our voice is heard. That requires an engaged citizen.

Take Action: Occupy the Media
There are thousands of Occupiers in the streets all over the world, but that’s not the only way we can participate in this democratic revolution.  We have all the power right here at our fingertips to affect a change in our media, which is the key to power in this world.  The goal of Occupy Your Local Media is to empower each individual to be a Citizen Observer for their local television and radio stations, newspapers, as well as any other outlet of information.  The Observer will call and report to each station anything that is found to be lies, misinformation, and propaganda.  The more the stations are inundated with complaints, the more likely they will take action to curtail the propaganda.  There would be no question what to do if it was a wardrobe malfunction, but entirely false propaganda intended on changing our government to become a slave to private power is a tad bit more concerning than any accidental nipple exposure.  We must restore truth to the media for the sake of freedom, the future of humanity and Earth, and our own lives.  There is no time to waste. We have already been asleep for too long while the predators have stripped and savaged our world.

Let’s get started
Occupy the Media

  1. This is a very exciting web site. Articulating very well the things we need articulated, and offering a way forward for anyone who is rightfully concerned.

  2. I see Obama and Sec Clinton and Biden seeming energetic, busy as heck and highly effective right now–And despite the continual racket of outrage (it’s always something), I advocate remembering ’08. We are living that dream–we need to remember that the most rigourous test brought us a leader sure to be one of the smartest and hardest-working in modern memory. Politics is strategy and they have some of the best minds anywhere. Trust your president in these dangerous times, and start refuting the sowers of doubt and distain (which the enemies of rational thought and freedom itself salivate at!)
